Dear colleagues,

I know there were approximately 10-12 Spaniards in Dirlewanger. Does anybody have more data about them?

Best,
Violeta

Ok, here (http://www.libreopinion.com/members/ch1 ... in_ss.html) I have found a mention about the Spaniards participating in the Dirlewanger brigade. It speaks of only 6 men belonging to it (instead of the dozen I had read of), but it doesn't specify who were these men.

"In resume Spaniards were found within the Div. Wallonie (were they formed the whole 3 Co ,I Btl ,SS Rgt 70 ) ,the 24th SS Karstjaeger -where they formed the whole 5th Co of the II Btl ,SS Rgt 59 -, also within Einsatzgruppe Ezquerra in Berlin some SD antipartisans units, within the SS Polizei Freiwilligen Bataillon BOZEN (31 spaniards at last) six of them within the 1 Co of the Dirlewanger Brigade, 20 of them within the 29.SS Italian division (under Oberscharfuehrer Camargo)".

Does anybody know something more about these men?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best,
Violeta

Hello, I think that most of them were workers in Germany but I am not sure.

Hi, Violeta!
On April 14th 1944 in SS-Sonder Btl. Dirlewanger served 6 spaniards:
1. Rodrigues. He was transfered in unit by SS-Ersatzkomando "Prag"
2. Valencia.
3. Castellanos.
4. Ovidio Inglesios.
5. Lopez.
6. Rodriguez Garcia.

Thanks, Semenov! Can I ask you to see if Jean_pierre Sourd mentions (maybe in the back index) their first names? All the surnames you transcript are very common in Spain: Castellanos, Rodriguez, Valencia, etc. It wouldn't help us very much to know more about these men.

And another qustion: "Inglesios" is such a strange surname in Spanish. Could it be "Iglesias"?

I thank you very much in advance for your help.

Best,
Violeta

Hello Violeta,

Sourd cites these names from McLean's "The Cruel Hunters" (Schiffer Books)

Hi Ferran (and/or whoever wants to add on this),

Does the fact that they were in the Dirlewanger brigade mean that they were also involved in the destruction of the Warsaw guetto and the Armia Krajowa?

Un saludo,
Violeta

Correct denomination for that very unit was "Pol.Btl.Bozen", not to be confused with SS-Polizei-Regiment "Bozen".
