Danish Generals

Postby Lornito Uriarte Mahinay Jr. on 05 Dec 2006 22:34

Can anyone help to know the exact number of Danish army generals taken into captivity by the Germans during the war? I need to know the precise names of their prisons or concentration camp. The dates they were arrested and freed.

I need to know if theres not a single Danish general executed or died during the war.

In continuation what happen to General Prior?Did the Germans know that he was the only one during the emergency meeting ,held few minutes after the German Invasion in April 1940 at the Royal Palace in Copenhagen, who insisted to fight the invaders?
Did the Germans execute him?

Thanks in advance for those who will help me!

Hi Baron,

Unfortunately I cannot help you a lot, but I am not aware of any Danish generals being executed by the Germans. General Prior survived the war and died at the age of 70 in 1946. The C-in-C of the Navy when the fleet was scuttled, Viceadmiral Aage Helgesen Vedel, survived the war and died in 1981.

Hi Baron,

No Danish generals or admirals died during the as a result of the Germans. The Danish army and navy personnel were briefly interned by the Germans in August 1943 when the Danish government rejected to introduce of martial law and stopped functioning as a government. The military personnel were though quickly released and the army and navy dispended.

May I again suggest that you take a look at my site concerning the generals? It will give you a view of those generals who died 1939-1945 in most cases. Then you can always ask for specific details here.

Kind Regards

I know one Danish general who died (apparently of natural causes) during the war. He was Major General Erik Baron Bille-Brahe (1883-1944), the Inspector-General of Artilley, Royal Danish Army.

Can anyone give me infos about him?
(his date & place of birth and death and his assignments)

Baron,

You are aware of the fact that all above mentioned generals had retired before WW2? All died of natural causes!

Please refrain from using all capital letters. This normally indicates "shouting". This also goes for thread titles.

Steen Ammentorp,

Good Day!

Pardon my ignorance on that. Those generals were retired just before the war but can you give me their exact place and date of deaths? They seems to be significant to me but my research do little because I here in the Philippines sources are limited. I hope you can help me.

Steen Ammentorp,

Sir, I wrote that MG Eivind Koefoed (1869-1940), Generalinspektør for Artilleriet from 1930 until 1936 but you give the year 1930 as his retirement.Clarification please.

I know one Danish general who died (apparently of natural causes) during the war. He was Major General Erik Baron Bille-Brahe (1883-1944), the Inspector-General of Artilley, Royal Danish Army. Can you give me details on his death?

Sorry my mistake. He retired in 1936.

Regading Major General Erik Baron Bille-Brahe (1883-1944) then as I have already stated he died of natural causes on the 8th August 1944
