Hi Matteus,
Sorry for the delay. It would seem that your Australian List is almost complete. I have the following as DMO&I (dd.mm.yy):
06.02.29-31.12.32: John Dudley Lavarack
14.02.33-02.03.38: Vernon Ashton Hobart Sturdee
02.03.38-31.07.38: Sydney Fairbairn Rowell
01.08.38-31.08.38: Vernon Ashton Hobart Sturdee
01.09.38-12.10.39: John Northcott
02.11.39-31.10.40: Bertrand Combes
18.11.40-30.06.41: Kenneth Alan McKenzie
Then he only continued as DMO
01.07.41-13.01.42: Kenneth Alan McKenzie (Operations)
14.01.42-31.07.42: Ronald Nicholas Lamond Hopkins (Operations)
While Rogers was DMI
01.07.42-[18.01.45]: John David Rogers (Intelligence)
11.11.45-22.04.46: Bertrand Combes (Intelligence)
However I have been unable to identify the DMO after 01.08.42 and likewise the DMI between 01.08.41 and 01.07.42.
As for New Zealand then the Army HQ was so small that it did not have anyone with the title Director of …, but the position was held by a General Staff Officer. I have been able to identify them prior to the war. They were (Intelligence)(dd.mm.yy):
23.11.31-05.09.32: William George Stevens, GSO (Intelligence & Staff Duties)
05.09.32-03.10.33: William George Stevens, GSO (Operations & Intelligence)
03.10.33-25.07.34: William George Gentry, GSO (Intelligence)
25.07.34-01.11.37: William George Stevens, GSO (Intelligence)
01.11.37- ? : George Henry Clifton, GSO2 (Operations & Intelligence)
The above with the rank of either Major or Lieutenant-Colonel, most likely succeed by:
13.02.39-00.05.40: Leonard George Goss, GSO1 (Operations & Intelligence)
After that Goss became first Colonel General Staff, later Brigadier General Staff and finally Assistant Chief of the General Staff (but in fact Assistant Chief of the General Staff since May 1940). The Army Headquarters included a number (2-4) of GSO1, GSO2 & GSO3s, but I am unaware who held the responsibility of Operations and Intelligence
