In many accounts this officer is reported as serving at Dunkirk however his commission is dated 25 May 1940, and his unit 1st Battalion GH, was lost in France. My assumption is that he was a new posting to the unit after it reformed however one personal account by a fellow SAS soldier states that he was at Dunkirk. Is it possible that he was posted to his unit within days of his commission and arrived there before they were forced to surrender at St Valery on 11 June.

Could he perhaps have been with the 4th or 6th battalion GH?
