The Spanish government has just awarded the Cruz Laureada de San Fernando, Spain's highest military award for bravery, to the Alcántara Cavalry Regiment for the unit's actions during the Disaster of Annual of 1921, when the regiment fought heroically to protect the withdrawal of the Spanish troops;casualties were 28 officers (from a total of 32) and 523 non-commissioned officers soldiers (from a total of 685).
