Hi Markus:

I believe your truck is an Austro Daimler ADN.
The only other photos I have run across are in Spielberger's book on Austrian vehicles and are not real good quality but if I cannot find another image I will scan the better of them later on.

Hi Bill,
You're correct of course, an ADN it is. A tanker lorry according to "Die Räderfahrzeuge des österreichischen Bundesheeres 1918-1988" by Rolf M. Urrisk although the specimen in the photo seems to be lacking the actual bulk liquid tank.
Over to you,

Ah Yes, Bushisms!!!

I actually do miss him sometimes for his mangled syntax and mispronounced words.
Nucular was one of my favorites and of course his mispronouncing of the name of virtually every world leader that did not come from Western Europe.

The group can try this one. It soldiered on into the War, but is a true Inter-War vehicle.

Thanks Bill,
New subject: rather basic conversion as self-propelled 40 mm guns go.

Vilken jävla fråga.

A truly worthy quiz question.

I do not recognize the truck, even so the wheels seem British.
The "Bulldog" type of cab and engine placement is not unlike other contemporary European vehicles but I cannot seem to match it to anything I know.

The type of lettering of the numbers on the left seem to be "Continental", indicating Europe, not the UK.

I know very little of armament, and I do not recognize the 40mm cannon.

Completely stuck, I am.

Continental lorry, yes. From a country that had common pre-1939 borders with the two previous quiz countries and belonged to an European empire pre-1918.

The artillery tractor in the photo is a rare prototype from a factory famous for six-wheelers, among other things...even googling for the tractor type tends to return metro car photos. A soft skin but you may find Spielberger more useful than Vanderveen.

Thank you for the excellent tip Markus:

It leads me to think it may be a Hungarian Raba of some sort.
I do not have all of Walter's books and although I thought I had the one on self propelled artillery, I cannot find it.

I also spent a half hour on Google with no result.
So, that is as far as I can go for the moment and hopefully that will let someone else figure out the model and year if I am partially correct.

Not Hungarian, I'm afraid, but before gaining independence the country in question was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. The manufacturer was active during that period also in various fields, e.g. weapons of all sizes. The photo is from a Spielberger book that mainly deals with two non-German tank types but has several chapters on other vehicles.

Well, Markus, that sort of leaves me with another guess, something I don't like doing.
This time, Skoda and Czechoslovakia.

I really appreciate the tips, I have never seen this photo or this vehicle before.

Maybe someone else can complete the puzzle, Google was no help.

Skoda it is,
And IMO guesswork is just as noble as any, especially when it produces results. Often your guts all you've got when you're dealing with vehicles that are rarely captured on film... the Skoda 6MT photo (only one I've seen) is from "Die Panzer-Kampfwagen 35(t) und 38(t) und ihre Abarten einschließlich der tschechoslowakischen Heeresmotorisierung 1920-1945" by Walter J. Spielberger. For a typical photo you'll get googling "Skoda 6MT" ;see http://foto-aktualne.mhdcr.biz/displayi ... fullsize=1 . Heavy urban camo on that one.

Thanks Markus:

You can perhaps understand my confusion as Raba is also know for 6 wheelers in that era and also did railroad engines etc.

Maybe this one will get the group to scratching their heads.
