I know this must have been discussed a hundred of times if not thousands.
But i found some photo taken from airplane showing Saint Aignan de Cramesnil (location where Wittmann died).
What is odd about this picture you say?
Look in red circle. It appears to be an airplane. Now which airplane is this? It looks like spitfire but it could be hawker typhoon too?
Can this be proof Wittmann was killed by an airplane?
Here are some close ups:
How did Wittmann die?

Re: How did Wittmann die?
Not if the label on the picture is correct.
The phrase 'le matin après la bataille du 8 aout" translates as "the morning after the battle of August 8th".
The battle occurred in the afternoon of the 8th which would lead me to conclude the pictures were taken on August 9th 1944, "the morning after the battle of August 8th".
Since Wittmann was killed on the 8th, this picture was taken some time after his death if the caption is correct.

The photo dated August 9th. This is one (of many) threads dealing with the aircraft.
