Hello to all :D; more follows................

The withdrawal of 2 AOK from Woronesh - Winter 1943.

On January 27, 1943, the enemy increased the breakthrough along the front of the 2. AOK. The Soviets penetrated 7 kilometers in Sacharowka with support of tanks.

On January 28 the 2. AOK received strong attacks from Gorshechnoje and managed to stabilize its front due south and southwest, but was hard pressed from the north.

On January 29, 1943 the enemy with strong support from tanks reached, in the north, the line Kastornoje - Sowjetskyj. The Kradsch. Btl 34 (Reinforced) occupied a bridgehead on the Tim; the temperature was of 2° C below zero and there was a thin layer of snow on the ground.

Hello to all :D; more follows................

The withdrawal of 2 AOK from Woronesh - Winter 1943.

The 68 ID (GR 164, GR 591 and GR 217) defended Gorshechnoje occupying a position northeast of the town. The Kampfgruppe Krüger (HQ of GR 202 with the I./ GR 217, Pi Btl.157 and other elements) secured the eastern flank. On the night of January 31 to February 01 of 1943, the Commander of the Hungarian III Army Corps arrived at Gorshechnoje and explained that he had given freedom of action to his troops.

Wow 8O

Tigre, Salex astounding work!

I have been looking for this somewhat forgotten battle for a while but don't find any thing then a few lines.

I think there is some detailed first hand accounts of the re-capture of the town (?) (and bridges) and then several months prolonged trench war that followed in this book:

EASTERN INFERNO: The Journals of a German Panzerjager on the Eastern Front, 1941-43 by Christine Alexander.

The Diary belongs to a soldier in the 299 ID. IIrc it's described as a pretty gruesome place.

Why don't you guys team up and do a small homepage dedicated to the battle. Would be awesome.

Thank you so much for sharing the information and pics of this little place (holy crap, those aerial photos are priceless :D ).

/Stefan

Hello to all :D; more follows................

The withdrawal of 2 AOK from Woronesh - Winter 1943.

On February 1, 1943 the 2 AOK rejected several Soviet attacks. The VII AK forced a breakthrough from Gorshechnoje and repelled attacks from the south. The GR 199 was urged to continue the breakthrough. The LV AK rejected strong attacks on the southern flank and retreated to the position in Ssosna in the sector Kolina - Limowoje.

The Command of the II. / PAR 103 and the 8. Battery reinforced the advance guard on the Tim. There the 4. / PAR 103 opened fire on the enemy located in Petrowka.

Hello to all :D; more follows................

The withdrawal of 2 AOK from Woronesh - Winter 1943.

On February 2, 1943 an enemy attack against the advance detachment was rejected due to fire of the 4. / PAR 103. The III. / PAR 103 with the 5., 6. and 9. Batteries supported the attack of Group Damerau from Schtschigry to Nikitskoje. The II. / PAR 103 (4. and 8. Batteries) covered the advance of Kampfgruppe Mauss in the ground located about 12 kilometers west of the Tim. The I./ PAR 103 reached Schtschigry; the batteries 2., 3. and 7. by rail and the 1. Battery by land. The Kampfgruppe Meerbach returned to Gorshechnoje.

In the 2nd AOK, the VII AK linked with the 26 ID in the Oskol, where the Army expressed its intention to continue fighting to the northwest in the direction of the Tim. The attempt carried out by the enemy of crossing the Tim by Tscheremissinowo was frustrated.

Hello to all :D; more follows................

The withdrawal of 2 AOK from Woronesh - Winter 1943.

On February 3, 1943 the II. Group of PAR 103 slowed the enemy advance against battle group Mauss. At noon the I. Group reached with its 2., 3. and 9. Batteries, the area located 10 km north of Kursk. Their commander was ordered, along with the battle group Spandau (I. battalion of Panzer Grenadiers Regiment-33, a battalion of alarm, the I./ PAR 103 and dispersed fractions), to stop the enemy about 25 kilometers due north of Kursk. The 1. Battery initially supported an attack of group Kessel of the 82 ID at Kosorscha with good results. Then it retreated towards Kursk.

On February 4, 1943 the II. / PAR 103 (4., 5., 6., 8.) Supported the newly formed Kampfgruppe Damerauetwa, 10 km east of Schtschigry and neutralized the enemy attacks with great ammunition consumption (1000 shots); in the afternoon and evening supported the retreat of the kampfgruppe in direction about 10 kilometers west of Schtschigry. At noon the Kampfgruppe Spandau, with support from the I./ PAR 103 reached Ukolowo north of Kursk.

Hello to all :D; more follows................

The withdrawal of 2 AOK from Woronesh - Winter 1943.

On February 5, 1943 the II. / PAR 103 stopped the enemy west of Schtschigry with high consumption of ammunition. It was very cold about 25 degrees Celsius below zero. The 1. / PAR 103 supported the Group Baumgart in its advance eastward from Kursk to Tim. Further back still followed, the HQ of the III. / PAR 103 and its 8. Battery. At night the attack was suspended. In the Group Spandau the I. / PAR 103 rejected several attacks of the enemy, yet it managed to break at night.

In the night from 05 to 06 February 1943 the Group Spandau fought costly struggles a few miles east of Kursk. Later on the I. / PAR 103 (batteries 2, 3, 7, 9) supported the Battle Group Mauss which retained the position at Winogrobi; the II. / PAR 103, facing East, again had a great consumption of ammunition. The III. / PAR 103 south of Sejm, facing west covered the western approaches to Kursk.

Hello to all :D; more follows................

The withdrawal of 2 AOK from Woronesh - Winter 1943.

On February 7, 1943 the I./ AR 103 took part effectively in the defense of the Group Mauss against several hostile attacks. In the afternoon, the III. / AR 103 supported a German attack to Sorino, south of Kursk, which failed however. On the night of February 8, 1943 it was approved by the German High Command the evacuation of Kursk. In the afternoon, the 3. / AR 103, attached to the Group Stauber, began the march to Korowino in order to link with the 26 ID.

By nightfall left Kursk the last batteries which supported the battle of the rear guards. In the period lasted from 09 till 24 February 1943, the PAR 103 supported the retrograde combat between Kursk and Ligoff. The 3. Battery rejoined the regiment on February 13, 1943. Between 11 and 24 February 1943, the PAR 103 fired 11,100 grenades of 105 mm (light howitzers leFH18); 3,940 grenades of 150 mm (heavy howitzers sFH 18) and 725 grenades of 100 mm (sK 18); a total of 525 tons of ammunition.
