Borissow july 1941.

Hello folks.

On 01 july 1941 at midday the Advance Guard of the 18 Pz Division (My Grl Nehring) under Major Willy Teege reached the town of Borissow and later during the afternoon seized the bridge over the Berezina located there. In doing so the 10. Company (panzer??) suffered big losses. Could someone help me with the OOB of this detachment and more details about this engagement?. TIA. Tigre.

Hi Tigre,

Did you find any info concerning this engagement? Unfortunately I don't have any info for you but I am also interested as well. Where did you find the info that you post. The Eastern Front is always a great area of research.

Regards

Hello to all :D; a brief history to complement ............................

Through Bobruisk (Beresina) to the Dnieper 1941.

On about 3 July the capitulation of the Russians retreating from Bialystok was terminated and the menace to the flanks and the rear lifted. The XXIV Army Corps (Mot) had to commit both panzer divisions for the seizure of Bobruisk. After the capture of that city on 28 June, the 3d Panzer division advanced on Rogachev and the 4th Panzer Division on Stary Bykhov towards the Dnieper, while the 10th Motorized Division was employed to the right and the rear of the 3d Panzer Division in direction Zhlobin, the 1st Cavalry Division protecting the right flank and the rear of Corps south of the main road. Attempts failed to take Rogachev and Mogilev by surprise. The LIII Corps of Fourth Army followed the XXIV Corps (Mot) in some distance.

The XXXXVI Army Corps (Mot) forced the crossings of the Beresina at Beresino and then advanced toward the Dnepr in direction of Shklov. The Corps thus advanced with the 10th Panzer Division at its right, with the 2d SS Division "The Reich" at the left and with the "Gross Deutschland" Regiment behind. Reconnaissance toward Mogilev was undertaken.

The XXXXVII Army Corps (Mot), with the 18th Panzer Division ahead, crossed the Beresina on 30 June over tne Borisov highway bridge which had remained intact. The Corps then deployed to the left. It was at Borisov that the Russian tanks T 34 an KW I appeared for the first time.

Seems they met tanks of the 1st Mechanised Division. That time only they had such models in that area

Hello to all :D; a little more............................

Towards the Dnieper 1941.

On June 30, 1941, the 18th Panzer Division (Generalmajor Nehring) reached, south of Minsk, the main road to Borisov on the Berezina. Because of the poor progress General Nehring decided to organize a vanguard whose task was to occupy the bridge over the Berezina and keep it until the Division's approach.

On July 1, 1941, the vanguard of the 18th Panzer Division (Generalmajor Nehring) under the command of Maj. Teege came against Borisov at noon. In the afternoon, the 10. Company seized the bridge over the Berezina suffering heavy losses in the action.

On July 2, 1941, the vanguard of the 2nd Armored Group (Generaloberst Guderian) reached the Dnieper in Rogachev.

On July 3, 1941, the 18th Panzer Division (Generalmajor Nehring) reported a battle with Soviet tanks of a completely new model. Traditional German antitank weapons, especially the gun 3.7cm Pak had no effect on this type of tank. At night, the Berezina was crossed for the third time between Borisov and Bobruisk, this time for the rifle regiments 69th and 86th of the 10. Panzer Division.

Hello to all :D; a little more............................

Fight for the crossing of the Beresina 1941.

Heinz Guderian: I used July 4 to visit the XXXXVI. Army Corps (Mot). The route was from Sinilo by Smolewicze-Cherven-Slobodka to the Command Post of the 10. Panzer Division and from there to the SS "Reich" in St. Retschki. There, General Hausser reported that his battalion of motorcyclists formed, after a hard battle, a bridgehead over the Beresina in Brodez (17 km south of Beresino). In Jakschizy the bridge over the Beresina was blown up, the crossing of vehicles was not possible yet ................

Otto Weidinger: "... about 2 km before Jakschizy we regrouped, the assault guns "Seydlitz" with Ostuf. Günster, "Lützow" with Ostuf. Telkamp and "York" with Uscha Klaffke, followed by a Kradschützengruppe (motorcyclists) reached the town at 17:10 hours. Strong unorganized parts of the Russians flee on the intact wooden bridge, about 150 meters long, on the Beresina ... Then Ostuf. Telkamp with the "Lützow" stormed ahead... and reaches the bridge." Steadily firing on this column, the assault gunn moves towards the long wooden bridge, at the same moment as it flies through the air: the assault gun plunges into the depths but is trapped under the bridge. The Russians have blasted two bridge pillars with a remote control. Despite the heavy burns on the face, Ostuf. Telkamp manages to get out of the vehicle and help the other men. The SS Sturmmann Nachbauer is injured and the SS Sturmmann Haucke has a concussion for the fall.... "
