Russian tanks ramming German tanks?!
I've heard many stories of this before. I've heard they were mostly accidental due to the poor optics of Russian tanks. Does anybody have any proof of these occurences, or the story behind the art below of a T-34 ramming a Panzer 38t? Note the large dent in the Panzer and also its seemingly missing track:
Thanks,
JT

Read "Panzer Destroyer - Memoirs of a Red Army Tank Commander" by Vasily Krysov for several examples of intentional ramming.
Re: Russian tanks ramming German tanks?!
1. Ramming was prescribed in relevant war-time manuals and regulations, though not as a primary anti-tank method.
2. There are accounts from the German side on intentional ramming, quite reliable as far as I can see.
Besides you can easily find pictures of Paks, cars and other materiel rammed and rolled over by Soviet tanks. That it was used against relatively soft vehicles is beyond doubt.

For what's worth, many examples of tank-ramming actions are mentioned here:jtemple507 wrote:Does anybody have any proof of these occurences, or the story behind the art below of a T-34 ramming a Panzer 38t?

I would tell you even more: there are accounts on German AVFs ramming Soviet:

Franz Kurowski describes the same episode in his book on Stugs. I'm not ready to assess its credibility.
That's a photo caption from Heinz F. Kruger «Bildband der rheinisch-pfaleischen 263.Infanterie-Division 1935-1945» (1962, Bad Nauheim: Podzun Velag) page 134. Taken from:27.6.1941 bei Lesniaki. Deiser russ.

General Kuzma Galitsky reported a case of a KV literally rolling over a German tank and crushing it.
