Battle of Berlin Luft units?
In the last few week before a Germany surander, what was remained in the Luft that where still fighting around Berlin? What German planes saw action against Russia?
Re: Battle of Berlin Luft units?
As of 9th of April 1945 Luftflotte Reich had 361 Fw 190 and 96 Bf 109; and Luftflotte 6 had 807 Fw 190 and 409 Bf 109.
Most of them grounded as there was no fuel left.

From "The last year of the Luftwaffe" by A.Price
So Luftflotte 6 in Eastern Germany comprised about a half of German operational aircraft and most ground-attack airplanes. At least in the first days of the BoB they were used quite actively. The employment of Mistel bombers against Oder bridges was probably the most known episode.

Re: Battle of Berlin Luft units?
According to a 16 Air Army after action report it had about 1100 combat encounters with Luftwaffe from mid-April to early May 1945 (one should remember here that most of them ended without losses to either side). Of them about 600 happened in 5 days 16-20.4.45. Own losses included 85 airplanes shot down in air combat and 25 crushed at emergency landings after damage received in air combat. It was a considerable level of opposition by any rate.

Art, thanks for the info. Is this what was remained to defend Germany on the east and west frontline?
