Hello to all :D; a little more.....................

Capture of General von Thoma - Nov 4, 1942.

The commander of the Afrika Korps, General von Thoma was captured when his tank was hit and set on fire; He was rescued with minor burns on the legs only.

Lieutenant Grant Singer, of the 10. Hussars, moved with his light tank when suddenly he found an isolated German tank. As he was to close for a withdrawal, he went ahead with full speed, while firing on it. Soon a German looked out the turret with his hands high. The German turned to be General von Thoma.

At 13:00 hours Bayerlein returned to the Afrika Korps CP and reported about the fight. At first the Kampfstaffel (security element of the CiC) retained the ground around Tel El Manspra, with the 21. Pz in the north and the 15. Pz in the south; however the Kampfstaffel was soon swept and General von Thoma with it. Bayerlein escaped on foot while the enemy was consolidating the height of Tel El Manspra.

That's a classic photo. Montgomery's expression seems to be "what the dickens is he doing here? :)

I think he's rather unconvinced by the shoddy salute.
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

I have a doubt about the composition of 9th Bersaglieri regiment during Alamein battles. Did it have an "armi accompagnamento bat. ??
After the fight on July around Ruweisat it seems to have been reduced to just one batalion: XXVIII.
Is this what happened? was it reduced to only one bat. during Halam Halfa and second Alamein. I've seen different orbats during Alamein with other numbered bats assigned: XXX, LVII... ??

Hi.
I thought that the regiment's AA Bat XL Battaglione Armi Accompagnamento was disbanded in January of 1942?
