Jentz's TCinNA did not include archive references.
In case you missed my response above my query about the 10th lies in respect of what Ponath stated in his diary.
Oberstleutnant Gustav Ponath, Maschinengewehr Bataillon 8
[On April 10] 0800 hrs the deployed bataillon advances on TOBRUK, Artillery does not come up. 5. Kompanie carries out recce under fire from British armoured cars. Forward it goes irresistibly. At KM 16 bridge blows up just in front of our point (spearhead). Simultaneously strong enemy arty fire. (WO 201/353)

I doubt it. No tanks involved.ClintHardware wrote:I re-check it tomorrow and hope it includes Ponath's note on 5. Kompanie.

Yes, I did miss your edit initially. However, I subsequently saw it and have already edited my post accordingly.ClintHardware wrote:Jentz's TCinNA did not include archive references.

This sitrep from CYRCOM to HQ ME found in the CYRCOM WD does not suggest that much damaged was inflicted upon the approaching force (just 2 A/C and 7 MT)...
I have not read through the appropriate Australian unit WDs for some time, but my memory of what was written about that day is that it was not particularly significant in the greater scheme of things.
To avoid the 'personality' issue, perhaps somebody else would be so kind as to rummage through them - since they're all available on the internet - to see what they have to say and post it up here. That should help keep the thread discussing the historical facts rather than who/right/wrong...

So does anyone know the British, Italian and German casualties during operation Sonnenblume?
