Hello, everyone
Not sure whether this is the proper section to post this question, if not, moderator is free to move it elsewhere, of course.
Does anyone have info on this photograph, or at least have it in better quality?
It was published in the book (and on its cover) "21. SS-divizija Skenderbeg" (21st SS Division Skanderbeg) by Pavle Ivanov Dželetović, with the following caption: "People's Hero Petar Vojvodić escorting captured German General August Schmidhuber, commander of the 21st SS Division Skanderbeg."
Schmidhuber is definitely NOT in this photograph, nor any of the pictured German officers is an SS man. Also, it seems that the Germans are escorting the Partisan and not the other way around (the Germans don't really look like POWs, nor does the alleged Partisan). Is at least the Partisan ID correct, is it Petar Vojvodić? Or is the man in the back of the car a Partisan at all? [it looks as if he is holding a weapon in his right hand, but it's hard to tell]
[/size]
Any info & opinion is most welcome.
Ivan

Re: A Partisan People's Hero with the Germans?
Hi Ivan,
"onako, na prvu" (English translation eludes me), the man in the front reminds me of Hans von Hößlin, CO of the 188th Jäger Division. This photo looks like the ones taken in May 1945 in Slovenia during surrender negotiations, when it was not uncommon to see Partisan representatives riding in German staff cars which shuttled between various headquarters'.
Cheers,
G.

(Thanks for the fast reply)
Not von Hößlin (the quality of the photo is terrible, but I'm pretty sure he is not wearing general's collar insignia; he might be a colonel though, or a lower rank), but the rest seems reasonable. Any thoughts on the Partisan ID, Gaius? Unfortunately, I wasn't able to improve the quality of the photo, this is as good as it gets when it comes to the print from that book.
Cheers,
Ivan
