Operation Husky: landing craft lost

Hello,
concerning the losses of US ship-borne landing craft during the Operation Husky, the Action Report of the Western Naval Task Force (USN) gives the following figures (see http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/Adm ... ily-5.html):
• LCM(3): 1 sunk, 22 stranded not salvageable
• LCS(S): 1 sunk, 2 stranded not salvageable
• LCVP: 82 sunk, 69 stranded not salvageable, 10 salvaged but beyond repair in theatre
It would be interesting to know how many landing craft were lost due to a direct enemy action (Italian coastal batteries, mainly) especially in the first day of landing and if some of them can be identified. A quite recent article (“Storici e no”, on “Marinai d’Italia”, March, 2010) of Italian historian Enrico Cernuschi gives 26 landing craft sunk by Italian coastal guns on the southern shores of Sicily on July, 10th, 1943 but, unfortunately, does not give the relevant source.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks in advance and best regards

Fabrizio
