Crotone airfield (Calabria, South Italy) under Allied control
In September 1943, after the Armistice between Italy and Allied forces, the Crotone airfield was taken by troops of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division advancing along the eastern coast of Calabria, in the "foot" of the Italian Mainland. With the urgency to repel the Allied invasion of Sicily the airfield, exactly located between Reggio and Taranto, was used by the Regia Aeronautica as forward base. Many fighters and dive bombers were sent into action with sorties against the invasion fleet and armed reconnaissances. I would like to know about the operational life of this airfield under Allied control. Could anyone be so kind as to provide me with information about RAF units and other Allied air forces detached at Crotone after the Armistice? I would like to know official records and veterans' memories (also pics?) regarding this airfield. Many thanks for help.

I think your best chance is to get a list of allied squadrons and check if they operated from Crotone.
