Why did he have Booker T. Washington to the White House for dinner then?

Have you ever seen "Rough Riders"? It's a TBS mini-series, followed up "Gettysburg". Rather fun, but the use of original dialog makes it sound strange to the modern ear.

I have Rough Riders on VHS; need to upgrade. But, it is a great film; way better than Gods and Generals or the mistake called Ironclads. I love how Dale Dye reacts to the idea of the new "tropical" uniforms versus the Service Blues. Also, the Colt Potato Digger presentation scene is a favorite.

I chortled over "Ironclads". I was teaching assistant for an ACW class at Purdue one year, and I was assigned all the naval material by the prof, a dedicated landlubber.Trackhead M2 wrote:Dear OP,OpanaPointer wrote:Have you ever seen "Rough Riders"? Did you see the Civil War Magazine cover for the review of Ironclads? Two photos: One of the leading lady and leading man kissing and the other of the ships in action. The caption was "Too much of this, Not enough of this" under the respective photos.

Missed that. Any good simulations of the actions at the Roads that you know of?
Re: Teddy Roosevelt's Legacy
If you are talking game type simualtions there was a boardgame called Ironclads that was quite good and could be used to model most real and many hypothetical actions.

I was hoping for something more "virtual".LWD wrote:If you are talking game type simualtions there was a boardgame called Ironclads that was quite good and could be used to model most real and many hypothetical actions.

There may have been a computer version of it. There was of Wooden Ships and Iron Men. There's also a naval sim that's primarily WWI. Don't know if it has ships that go back that far or not.
