his protégé, a famous navigator, named an Pacific island group after him which became famous under another name ..

Thank you, pb. I hope this one is not too obscure:

There was a prominent French statesman after whom a park in a Pennsylvania town is named. He and others found Pennsylvania a refuge in the mid 1790s during the events of the Revolution. The Pennsylvania town also has a French name, attributed to these refugees.

Anyone know the name of the French gentilhomme?

WELL..... I guess it wasn't too obscure. :lol: I live about 11 miles from Bellefonte. Unscrupulous guy that he was, I have found Prince Talleyrand to be a fascinating historical figure.
