He was at the battle, and commanded the cavalry, but he was not in overall command.

Kocjo is right, it was the Duc du Croy. But in what bizzare circumstances did he die?

I give up. I searched all over the net and I couldn't find anything. Just that he was killed by his troops, but you said, this is not correct.

Another hint or another sub-question?

Because of the nature of his death he attracted vistors for over 200 years.

Does that help?

It is rather difficult to pinn down, but I am sure you'lll find his fate interesting. :)

After the defeat the Duc stayed in Reval and died there in the spring of 1702. However when he died he was insolvent (bankrupt). Therefore the creditors in Reval invoked an ancient law which stated that those who died in debt could not be buried. The body was placed in a church vault, where in the dry atmosphere it did not decay but mummified. Eventually it was taken out and placed under glass. For almost 200 years, visitors to Reval were taken to see the Duke lying before them still in his wig and uniform. A few years before the revolution, the Imperial government decided the spectacle was unseemly and the Duke was finally buried.

You correctly named the Duke Kocjo, your turn again.

Thank you Lord!
Interesting story!

OK:
Name 2 future German Feldmarschall's, who fought during 1917's Offensive on Soška fronta (Isonzo front). Both were Offic., their units were in Alpenkorps and during first assault these 2 units were fighting side-by-side.

Still nothing?! :?

A hint: One of these two soldiers was credited with the capture of a moutain, which was captured by other soldier in question.

:) Good old "Infanterie Greift An" :)

My question:
Who were the two future (WWII) Marschalls fighting against each other at Putna Valley, Romania early 1917?
