The last photo above shows that Marilyn's performance was a self-sacrificing act for her country, considering the harsh winter of Korea.

Marilyn Monroe's Visit to My Hometown

#5

Post by Kim Sung » 30 Jul 2009, 17:17

Mr. Bae Ki-Bok (배기복) who is now living in Pusan opened this unknown photo of Marilyn to the public yesterday. This photo was taken at K2 airbase in Taegu (대구) in February 1954. Mr. Bae bought this photo from a Korean-American when he visited Los Angeles in 1991.

* Taegu is my hometown. You can see Mt. Palgong (팔공산) far behind Marilyn in this photo where I went on an excursion at my childhood.

Hai Kim,
Marco from Amsterdam, Netherlands here.
I did some research in 'who's the handsome guy' with Marilyn Monroe.
According to the Marilyn Monroe website that I use daily ( BIG Monroe fan here) it Colonel Donald Wakehouse.
MM was signing his chest.
I have two photo's of this event...

Greetings,
Marco

Thank you very much for your information. Colonel Wakehouse looks too young for his age. 8O

Something on Wakehouse here:

http://www.mcall.com/news/local/warstor ... ory?page=7
Don Wakehouse was the last POW repatriated and was greeted by Marilyn Monroe upon his release. His wife, Louise, sent Salay a newspaper clipping with a picture of Don with the movie star. The caption quoted Wakehouse as saying he would rather be with Louise.
Perhaps Colonel was his later service rank.He looks too young there.

American actresses on a snow-covered airfield of Pusan who arrived on Christmas Eve in 1951 to hold a performance for soldiers at the front. This photo was made public by a Korean military collector Yi Joon-Gyu (이준규) today, the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.
