Iran-Iraq War (1980-88) question

Postby Kamerad06 on 20 Apr 2012 16:43

Did the belligerents in the Iran-Iraq War ever observe, or ever discuss the possibility of observing, a truce during the holy month of Ramadan?

The war went on for several years, meaning several Ramadans. Was it always business as usual during the holy month, or did they put hostilities on temporary hold?

It was mainly business as usual. For example, Iran rejected at least two offers (in 1981 and 1987) made by Iraq for Ramadan cease-fires, and launched Operation Ramadan, a big offensive to take Basra, on 13 July 1982.
