Note: American combat missions in Southeast Asia ended on August 15, 1973, due to a Congressional funding cut, as U.S. forces in Southeast Asia retreated from old Indo-China. Those Americans still remaining at gigantic air bases in adjacent Thailand were volunteers for Southeast Asia. ... With the Cambodian seizure of the Mayaguez, President Ford ordered U.S. forces in Thailand placed on immediate alert. ... Meanwhile, U.S. military commanders in the region were straining at the leash.
