Any Foreign Advisors During The Counterinsurgency Portuguese War?

#1

Post by Edward L. Hsiao » 07 Jan 2016, 10:20

Gentlemen,

Were there any good examples of foreign advisors fighting in the counterinsurgency war of Portugal from 1961 to 1974? I believe western foreign advisors needed to train Portuguese air force pilots to fly and fight in jet fighter planes.

Sincerely,

I was in Rhodesia shortly afterwards. We took in quite a few "Porks" with specialist skills after 1974, but I don't recall whether they acquired any of their expertise from foreigners, though I don't doubt there was some coordination with the Rhodies and South Africans.

As Portugal was part of NATO it would have had western advisers at home anyway. It would have been impossible to stop any expertise so acquired from seeping to the colonies.

A not very helpful Sid.
