I find it simply shocking how similiar these uniforms look compared to those of the WWI and Nazi era. The Soviets didn't object despite the similarities.... 8O 8-)

That is an interesting thought... especially since the Soviets hated everything about the prior regime!! I think that the uniform style was kept as a form of intimidation to the west.

There have to be some more DDR tunics out there!! Please dont make me post more of mine!! :-D

Regards
Paul

That has always been a question of mine, as to why the Soviets would allow one of their puppet regimes to retain a uniform style of an army that was hell bent on their destruction. I suppose one response would be that the overall Wehrmacht appearance instilled order within the popular and gave the DDR a "fierce" presentation to their Western enemies. In other words, it allowed the Soviets to gradually transform what was left of Germany by keeping some traditions while eliminating others.

Here is another tunic I like a lot. It belonged to a medical major. Notice that the boards are piped dark green for the Rear Services.

These uniforms used to belong to the commanding officer of the arty school in Leipzig. His comb is still in the inside pocket of the jacket with the aquilletes

And Finally... a strange civil defence tunic... The strange part is the pair of shoulder boards. They dont seem to be the standard CD boards, but the color is correct. I dont know what else they could be for.
