It is a Swiss 7.62 mm [Para] KP [SMG] Bergmann produced between 1920 - 1927. Its Swiss name was Maschinenpistole m/20 "Brevet Bergmann".

In Germany this model was earlier known as Mashinenpistole m/18-I but after the WW I its production rights were sold to Swiss SIG company. Bergmann SMGs used in Finland were bought by the Civil Guard between 1921 - 1926. Total number in Finland was 1.415 pieces. About half of these were privately financed.

There was also a Finnish made Bergmann copy produced by Lindelöf works in around 1922 and they were counted to the figures of original Bergmanns. Total number of the first production batch was to be about 200 pcs but actually only 10 - 15 weapons were accepted before the trade was cancelled probably because Swiss Bergmanns could be bought in a very cheap price. About 40 pcs were sold by various local Civil Guards, Finnish Police, Finnish Coast Guard, and Estonian Police at Tallinn but about 150 - 160 pcs of half-produced SMGs remained unsold. It is also possible that some movie company would have bought deactivated Lindelöf SMGs in the 1930's?

-----

108 more Bergmann SMGs were bought before the Winter War. There were also about twenty 9 mm [Para] Bergmann models. German MP 28-II Schmeisser (MP 28/II) produced in the 1930's was an improved version of Bergmann SMG. Both of these models look very alike. Since summer 1940 there was also about 150 - 200 pcs of these 9 mm [Para] "Schmeisser" SMGs in Finland.

Director Yuli Raizman's 1945 documentry "K voprosu o peremirii s Finljandijei" (On the armistice with Finland) has been uploaded to Elävä Arkisto, though it might that the viewing is only possibly in Finland. The document is with Finnish subtitles.

Thank you very much Martti.
I've been looking for that one for some time.
Have to watch it later today.
Any interesting "finds" there?

Regards, Juha

There is a scene around 37:15 where General Meretskov is depicted bording an aeroplane with an interesting white reindeer emblem on the rudder. I have hard time reading the serial number, but one possible interpretation might be 44-2823.

For some reason YLE hasn't uploaded the interview of Yrjö Keinonen on the program "Itse asiassa kuultuna", which was televised one day before his death. I'd really like to see this interview, so I sent a request to them. If anyone else is interested, send them a request and lets hope they upload it someday.

A. F. Airo was interviewed on the same program and it has been uploaded to the archive.
