AFAIK The Soviet 45mm had spoked wheels which were actualy Soviet made copies of the Ford Model A wheel. Ford built a plant in the Soviet Union but was never paid . Tero T

Hi all,

This photo from a Finnish armytruck with woodgasifier was taken in 1940. I am looking for the manufacturer of the truck and the gasifier.

Good Day!
The truck looks like a 1935 Ford. But without seeing the grille it is difficult. Two manufacturers in Finland of wood gas generators were A&K and Korpivaara and Halla Oy. They made a square type body to the wood receptor. The one pictures is based on a Swedish Gragas generator.
I am sorry I believe you sent me a PM on this but have been away for the past 3 weeks.

I would also say it's a Ford, could as well be m.40, m.37 or m.35.

There were actually tens of manufacturers of gas generators in Finland. A. Ahlström Oy's =A= gas generator also had a square shape, but it's difficult to say from the photo.

For those who can read Finnish I recommend Markku Mäkipirtti's books on motor vehicles of the Finnish Army 1919-1959 and 1960-2000.

Evening Friends:

The vehicle with the gas generator is certainly a Ford and is either a 1935 or 1936 model based on the shape and design of the louvres in the hood/bonnet.
In my experience it is impossible to tell the exact year model between the two years with a photo taken from this angle. The very minor differences can only be seen from the front.

Model building questions on Finnish trucks

#45

Post by pwranta193 » 19 Aug 2009, 21:29

Interesting thread - how about this truck? The Ford Model A pick up?

I've been eying this one in 1/16th with an eye towards making it Finn. I was originally thinking to make it a Gaz AA, which would have been easy - but then realized this has only the spoked wheels and the single tires in the rear. Would these have been found on the Finn side and pressed into service?

Please see the link: http://www.minicraftmodels.com/Concourse1.htm
http://www.hubcapcafe.com/ocs/pages01/ford3102.htm

While I'd like to do the Gaz AA... I'm not into rebuilding and casting six wheels in 1/16th:)

Thanks!
Paul
