They all look to be beautiful and intelligent animals!

I'm surprised to see no Norwegian Elkhounds-I suppose they stayed with the Norwegian Volunteer units?

It is impossible to keep an Elkhound away from snow. Every year at first snow-cover my Elkhound Tikka goes insane until I bring my skis in the workshop for the year's first wax :P

The earliest experiences of using dogs for pulling loads at the Finnish Army I found were from winter warfare courses held during the years 1926-27 by Jääkäriprikaati. The unit employed both German Shepherds (pulling 30 kg in terrain and 40 kg on the road) and Karelian Bear Dogs (20 kg) with different kind of harnesses. The smaller Bear Dogs fared better in harsh winter weather than the Shepherds and were generally more liked than them, I suspect.
