Found another website(very interesting one out of Russia) with a number of artist renditions of Hanssin-jukka. Five or six pictures, The last one has it in a brown camo which does not look right but since more pictures are showing up with unique colour schemes, who knows. I have been under the impression the colour in 42 was black and forest green ,not olive green. Website is http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/t/53/78/0#1

Just a question - why was it called Hanssin-Jukka?

Some Finnish Air Force Douglas C-47s were named after notorious Finnish criminals from 1800s; "Isoo-Antti" (Antti Isotalo 1831-1911) and "Hanssin-Jukka" (Juha/Jukka Leskenantti 1835-?).

I just happened to come across with this photo from a family album, dating back to the 1960's, showing Hanssin-Jukka as a café at Hämeenlinna market square. Well, this was the way it was saved from scrapping...

The restoration project of the aircraft is currently well in progress by the planned schedule, in order for this valuable museum aircraft to be donated to the Air Force on the Memorial Day of the Air Force Fallen, 7 September 2011.

HI Hanski! Good picture. You must have been two years old at that time. How could you take the picture? :D Regards Tero T

Hi Tero, I think the photo is from 1965. You clearly underestimate my age!

Seems to be a shared fate for many of the old DC2's and DC3's around the world. Bit off the main topic of this thread, but there's a similar cafe in New Zealand - used to stop off there on my way to the ski fields in the Central North Island. Still, at least it keeps them in one piece......

This link, kindly provided to us by Vely, contains Eino Luukkanen's book Fighter over Finland. Recommended!

On its pages 152 - 158 it has references to Hanssin-Jukka.

More pictures available of the restoration work done to Hanssin-Jukka at Tikkakoski. I do not know if these are new pictures as such, but they are new at least to me :milwink:
