Re: Soviet T-27 tankette captured during the Winter War?
+ missing towing lug in the center, drive sprockets, missing fenders,...
According to the photos, the T-27s which were left behind by the Soviets in Värtsilä and Salla (Nurmi, Kutsa) were not in that bad shape. The SB bombers in the first exhibition were scrap compared to these.

Re: Soviet T-27 tankette captured during the Winter War?
Thanks,
The Soviet T-27's used different type of drive sprockets, so at least for me very hard to say about the differences.
Fenders could have been missing from any vehicle.
However there might be something different visible at the road wheel assembly /"skid"
If so, that one seemed to be at quite good condition.
Regards, Juha
Do you know when the center lug was removed from the Finnish tankette?Esa Muikku wrote:+ missing towing lug in the center, drive sprockets, missing fenders,...

From my eyes they were comptlely burnt (perhaps also not in that condition to be the captured T-27 mentioned at the Kantakoski book)Esa Muikku wrote:According to the photos, the T-27s which were left behind by the Soviets in Värtsilä

Seems really, that all these three photos are from one and same vehicle.Juha Tompuri wrote:Even more strange.Esa Muikku wrote:Heh! That is the Vickers-Carden-Loyd Mk VI* and not a T-27! (Evidence can be found in some details and other photos.)
Do you mean the "towing ring" at the photo as one evidence ?

Hi Slon,
After a quick search at Maksim Kolomiets book (I have a swedish language version of it):
http://www.amazon.com/Tanks-Winter-War- ... 9197589527
...If I got it correct, it does not mention of any T-27 tankettes at the 44th Division inventory.
From the book I noticed the T-27 being only used at Petsamo and Karelian Isthmus regions.
Regards, Juha

Photos of T-27's during Winter War seem to be quite rare.
Here two of them:

123 JD had the tank K|103 Tied.P, usually 10-12 light tanks
Re: Soviet T-27 tankette captured during the Winter War?
According to a Finnish 1942 guide to Soviet tanks ("Tietoja Puna-armeijan panssarikalustosta"), the T-27s were not used during the Winter War in great numbers. The 2nd Tank Regiment of the 1st Tank Division had a few dozen T-27s at the beginning of the Continuation War at Alakurtti. Three T-27 A in the photograph below were found by the Finnish troops from the ruins a burned barrack at Värtsilä.
The guide does not give the T-27 a very good grade due to its limited ability to cross the Finnish terrain and operate during the winter time.
Specifications according to a Soviet booklet "Tanketka T-27" (Moscow 1932):
Weight: 2.7 tonnes
Crew: 2
Armament: a DT machine gun
Ammunitions: 2500 rounds
Armour: 4 mm on the bottom, 10 mm at the sides.
Speed: 20 km/h on the road in average.
Fuel: 46 litres
Range: 110 km on the road.
Maneuverability: Rises at 30 degree angle, climbs over a 0.5 meter obstacle, passes a 1.2 meter ditch.

Thanks for the photo.Martti Kujansuu wrote:Three T-27 A in the photograph below were found by the Finnish troops from the ruins a burned barrack at Värtsilä.
Yep, seems that they were completely burnt out wrecks.
Paavo Susitaival at his book Rykmentti Taistelee (Regiment Fights) mentions that his regiment (JR 29)captured four burnt light tanks that had been under repair at Värtsilä.

However, the regimental diary mention that they captured three burned tanks at Värtsilä on the 11th of July 1941.Juha Tompuri wrote: Paavo Susitaival at his book Rykmentti Taistelee (Regiment Fights) mentions that his regiment (JR 29)captured four burnt light tanks that had been under repair at Värtsilä.

Yes, that's what I have read at other sources too, and at the photo "only" three tankettes are visible.Martti Kujansuu wrote:However, the regimental diary mention that they captured three burned tanks at Värtsilä on the 11th of July 1941.

Thanks Esa,
That one seems to be at quite good condition, compared for instance to the apparently heat treatment received Värtsilä ones.
