Hi Sturm:
Yes, British. It is a Bedford ML.
It has an SA registration plate so must be in Finnish military service.

Combination of time (10th of July 1941) and place (Simola) for when the photo was taken suggests Armoured Train 1:Sturm78 wrote: I am not sure : Finnish armoured train 1 or 2 ??

Re: Camouflaged Cars and Lorries
Found a wonderfully rare shot of one of the Finn's big International Harvester K7s!
As it happens this example - Sirkia Island in 1943 - has a rudimentary camo which *appears* to be black over olive (in splinter fashion). But this is a guess...
SA KUVA: Photo No: 130672
I believe a batch of these powerful American trucks was bought specifically for the Finn's artillery in 1940.
I presume this sort of camo was applied by the unit on a ad hoc basis? (And are not to a formal or official pattern?)
I've seen this sort of 'black & green' splinter camo before on Finnish Citroen C45s (from 1941)...
SA KUVA: Photo No. 22879
Can anyone provide any infor on this pattern? Was it 'black-over-olive green' - or something else? AND was this sort of ad hoc camo used throughout the war (including the Lapland War)?
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Camouflaged Cars and Lorries
My guess is that the dark color is the original paint and the lighter shades are either Finnish Field Grey or Moss Green.
Re: Camouflaged Cars and Lorries
Hi Tommy,
For the IH K7...
yes, looking at the photos carefully it does look like the lighter shade (field grey or moss green ) has indeed been painted over the top of a darker colour (I would presume black as any other colour would have been ridiculous).
If you look at the lighter shade it's patchy in places.
SO...Going out on a limb...I think it's black vehicles which have had moss green loosely applied in patches.
(...Waits for someone to tell me otherwise!)
For the Citroen C 45...
These may have come from the Germans in the normal dark Field Grey, so that may be teh base dark colour over which patches of moss green have been applied...
Again...Complete guesswork without access to reference or colour photos.

Hi Sturm:
I don't have the time just now to identify the exact model, but your photo is I believe a Scania Vabis truck from about 1940, probably an ex civilian Finnish vehicle.

Re: Camouflaged Cars and Lorries
Hi Bill,
Yep, judging by the book seems to be a (right hand side driving) Scania Vabis L1664.
Belonging to the best quality trucks at Finnish service during the wars.
Regards, Juha
