Tulenjohtosuuntakehä = fire direction aiming circle, used by forward observers to give corrections to firing units.

Asemasuuntakehä is for firing post gun laying, tulenjohtosuuntakehä is for forward observer fire direction, both are aiming circles with some differences, of which I´m not quite sure.

I'm sure you are right. Knowing the close relationship with Finnish 40 mm Bofors guns and 1 m Zeiss rangefinders I was just guessing that this one could also be a Zeiss product.

Hi all,

Ummhhh......It is difficult to secure, but I would say that the rangefinder of my last images is slightly larger than 1m.... :?

As customary for these questions, the original Finnish caption is rather revealing: "Säähavaintoasema toiminnassa. Semsjärvi 1942.01.16", in English "weather station in operation at Semsjärvi 16.01.1942". For speedier answers (= translations) it´s always a good idea to copy the original text even though you don´t understand a word of it.

And indeed, if you go to adjacent SA pictures - always a good idea, too - SA 90827-32 show the whole operation, including SA 90828, where a meteorological kite is being towed by this particular winch.

8O 8O ....I had never seen a meteorological kite, only meteorological balloons....

I know this is a complicated and little studied issue but..... maybe someone can identify the model or manufacturer of these three small rangefinders: they are three different models !!!

Thanks in advance. Sturm78

SA 90764:
The rangefinder is "TM 403 Stereo-etäisyydenmittari, mallia Zeiss, kanta 0,7 m" i.e. Zeiss stereo range finder with 0,7 m base.
Yes, the aiming circle is TM 264.

Light armored cover M/40 for 7,62 mm "Maxim" machine gun (likely). Weight about 5 t, stuff - 2 men. Manufactured by Karhulan konepaja or Wärtsilä.
