I used to read issues I got hold on. My family refused to suscribe it for something I don't recall.
My father hated war, so that must have been the reason.
Great to have them digitalized. Thanks for the link Mikko!
With best, J-P

This is not a complaint, but now having finished the first four issues, does it take 5 minutes per issue to load for everyone?
It is the same on a PC or a MAC.

Takes long for me too, but not quite that much.Bill Murray wrote:This is not a complaint, but now having finished the first four issues, does it take 5 minutes per issue to load for everyone?
Perhaps because of site being overloaded/crowded?

Very good point Juha. It has only been on this Forum for one day and this is a very aggressive bunch of people when trying to access a new source of information/photos.
I will try again in the middle of the night Finnish time and see if it is faster.

Just a quick update, at 1600 hours, 5 hours after my original inquiry, the loading time is down to 2-3 minutes depending on the size of the individual magazine I am wanting to look at. Now, I just have to stay awake until 2300 hours!!!

This is a great contribution indeed for all those interested in Finnish history of WWII.
Obviously, the language will be a problem for foreign readers. Can anyone recommend a good Internet on-line translating system for texts in Finnish? Without doubt, this text with its highly specialized military terms is very demanding to translate.
Fortunately, we have the "Breaking the sound barrier" section at the AHF!
By the way, Hakemisto or Index is a great resource at the opening web page on the top right. With your browser's Search function, you can get good connections picked up pointing to articles related to named persons or battlegrounds, for example by searching "Petsamo" this index immediately gave 40 related stories.

Wow! Is all I can say. Totally agree, it's just great!Hanski wrote:This is a great contribution indeed for all those interested in Finnish history of WWII..
I've tried a couple of different translation software packages in the past but I'm now back to using google translate. It's by no means perfect but it seems to have improved a lot over the last couple of years and translates rather better than in its earlier versions. If anyone has any suggestions on something better I too would really like to hear - Finnish seems to be a real struggle for most translation software.......Hanski wrote:Obviously, the language will be a problem for foreign readers. Great, just great.
A great opportunity for next winter to start learning the Finnish language by reading Kansa Taisteli-leaves.
Adult education institutions, there's definitely English-Finnish-English language courses.
The thesis will then be able to present on this forum.
pp. looks like I need some...

Google translator has difficulties also vice-versa, from Finnish to English.
The only way i've found easier is to cut down sentences as short as possible and even then I have to use "Improve translation" -function.
While reading "Kansa Taisteli", one must remember that the stories are not scientic history, but personal memories of the veterans. So mistakes are understandible and natural.
With best, J-P
