Einsatzstab Fähre Ost
This armada of Siebel Ferries was despatched in two Luftwaffe - Fährenflotille (II and III).
How they reached Finland, by sea, waterways or rebuilt on the shores of the Ladoga lake ?
Do you know the name of the chief of this armada ?
Thanks
ALEX

There are good pictures of the Flotilla on SA-kuva.

Siebel ferries were in Belgium until about June 1942 then they reached Kiel by inner waterways. (As reported by Swedish radio - see record 7.6.42 at 18.00 - http://digi.narc.fi/digi/view.ka?kuid=3604769 and next view). I expect then they were dismantled and transported by cargo ships to Finland, then by railways to the shores of Ladoga lake where they were rebuilt.

The chief of all E.F.O. was Lt.Colonel Siebel. Lt.Colonel Schalke (former marine officer) was the chief of flotillas responsible for navigating the ships at sea and Lt.Colonel Wachtel was responsible for battle action at sea.

If you use "siebel" as search word at SA-kuva.fi you get 43 hits, "tykkilautta" gives 8 hits, "saksal* and lautta*" gives 43 hits, "raskas and lautta*" 34 hits, "lahdenpohja and lautta" 70 hits, "88 and tykki" 50 hits, "MAL" 7 hits.

Many of the hits are the same, but happy hunting :)

MALs (Marineartillerieleichter) were delivered to lake Ladoga for Finnish use in summer 1944 while E.F.O. operation there was closed before December 1942.

You're right Bar. I got that MAL photo from the same search as Siebels so I didn't notice the date on MAL. Sorry!
