2.Rask.R.It.Ptri - need help with position!

Hi guys,

I need your help to find a location on a unit. I can simply not find the right position for it.

The name of the unit which position I am searching is 2. Rask.R.It.Ptri (2. Raskas RannikkoilmatorjuntaPatteri). I search its location of the summer offensive in 1944. It was using the rather rare anti-air weapon 75. itk./97-14P, Puteaux. The Finnish forces only bought 24 of this type and it was given to 6 Coastal Anti-air batteries during the Continuation war.
I hope this fact can help me find the right position of the asking unit 2. Rask.RIt.Ptri.

(source: http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/AA_GUNS3.htm ).

Thanks in advance,
Kiitos :D

Note: The question have been edited' from the location of 2. Rask.It.Ptri to 2. Rask.R.It.Ptri.

2. Raskas ilmatorjuntapatteri was located in Westend in the municipality of Espoo from 26 January 1942 to 25 November 1944, after which it was disbanded:

However, according to the war diary of the 2. Rask.It.Ptri, the unit was equipped with four 76 ItK/31-SS cannons in 1944. The Puteaux were used by e.g. 6. Raskas ilmatorjuntapatteri (4 x 75 It.K/97-14 PK) located in the cities of Kotka and Hamina in 1942-1943.

Hi Mangrove,

Thank you for the very useful information. A soldiers warpath I am working with was attached to 6. Raskas Ilmatorjuntapatteri until its disband in August 1944. Can you tell me the exact location of 6. Rask.It.Ptri? It seems like the unit was in Kotka until July 1943 and moved to Hamina? Something you can confirm?

EDIT/NOTE: I can see a spelling mistake has occurred between the Sotilaskantakortti and the Kantakortti Palvelus Puolustusvoimissa. The unit now in question, where I need its location/position is 2. Rask.R.It.Ptri (Raskas Rannikkoilmatorjuntapatteri). Would it have been possible for the 2. Rask.R.It.Ptri to have these guns 75.Itk/97/14/PK?

6. Rask.It.Ptri was located in Kotka until 28 and 29 July 1943, when it was relocated to the Port of Hamina.

Unfortunately the war diaries of the battery written in 1944 have not survived or are missing in the National Archive. However, the unit was subjected to III/RTR 12 at the time. From their order of battle we can observe that the battery was situated in Vanhankylänmaa Island in the Gulf of Finland in May 1944. Furthermore the list of armament shows that both 2. RIt.Ptri and 4. Rask.RIt.Ptri (in Suursaari Island) were equipped with four 75 It.K/97-14 PK each.

Hi Mangrove'

Thank you for all the given information. Very useful and thank you for finding me the location of 2. Raskas Rannikkoilmatorjuntapatteri.

Where or how did you find which Batallion and Regiment it was subjected to? (I mean, you haven't scrolled through every book page by page until you find it, have you?) Would be a nice help in the future, if there was some place I could look it up.

Unfortunately, that is how one must do it in many cases. I usually start finding clues from the regimental level (Ilmatorjuntarykmentti for land units and rannikkotykistörykmentti for naval ones) diaries and work slowly my way down.

Hi Mangrove,

Thank you for your time an effort. Nice to get some tips and tricks. I use the diaries occasionally, but it is a hard source to use for a non-Finnish speaking.

Juha: Thank you for the provided pictures from the island Suursaari.

Could some of you tell me what this means?
- See picture attached

I know it means: 2nd Merivoimien Pioneerikomppania. But the written afterwards I need help too.

Thank you to both of you,
René

It seems to read
Lämmittäjä Hinaaja "Juurikka" = Stoker Tugboat Juurikka
Yleinen kotiutus = General demobilization
yht. = yhteensä = altogether

Hi Seppo,

Thank you. Then I wasn't completely wrong. I have not been able to dig out any info of the tugboat "Juurikka".
Any one who know something about this boat, or are able to find info from the unit (2. M.PionK)?

Kiitos,
René
