Yep.

The skis (folding type) were stored in the tail part of the Finnish Hurricanes (AFAIK as with several other types too) for winter and summertime (for crossing swamps) use.
Here some aditional info about the plane in question:

I took the quiz photos when visiting the Tikkakoski museum 28th January this year.

So, over to you Markus

Thanks Juha,

New question; Enemy equipment related: During the Winter War several Russian aircraft returned peppered with holes. Occasionally these were officially reported, not necessarily in all honesty, to have been caused by shell fragments. In final analysis here's a main culprit: What?

Hi Bill,

Although a bit insect-like the drawing's subject was metallic. The equipment it was part of was sort of akin to many insects and birds in that it flew but parallel's to this part's modus operandi are more common in plants.

Markus

Hint; "Expurgated" passage from a pertinent Leningrad Military District Special Department report:
After inspecting Maksimov's aircraft squadron commissar Smirnov said to weapons engineer Aleksandrov: "I am certain that Maksimov's aircraft received its damages from ___ _____ but what we must do is to put on record that the damages supposedly were caused by an artillery shell explosion or else the others would think that Kandarov's aircraft on 17th February also received its holes from ___ _____, and we would not at any rate be praised for that.

OK Markus...........

I'm trying to be creative, not silly, really.

Debris from shot up wind mills that they should not have been attacking???????
Edit: While wind mills do not really fly, they do have "propellors" . Wind mills draw water from the soil just as plants do.
Cheers
Bill

Aerial bomb (fuse) arming (propellor) assembly?

Hi Bill and Juha,

The bomb fuze arming propellor is the answer I was looking for. According to the same report from Tuntematon Talvisota edited by Vihavainen & Saharov (congrats to Juha for filling my quote's blank spots correctly)
When a bomb is dropped from the aircraft the fins of the [AGM-1] fuze spin rapidly from the housing sensitizing the bomb to explosion from first touch. Because of this the bombs explode when they happen to hit other bombs in the air near the aircraft.
Drawing from http://www.flightforum.fi/forum/index.p ... 115.0.html

Over to Juha again,
Markus

Hej Markus/Juha:

I congratulate Juha on the proper answer but I think I at least deserve a pat on the bum for my efforts.

I remembered from my time living in Sweden and visiting Finland so many times, the "Killer" mosquitoes that seemed to be the size of birds. I was not sure if the damage was caused while in flight or perhaps while on the ground in between missions.

The wind mill concept came from the drawing which seems to show some blades and some sort of screw mechanism that drove the blades, so I Googled "Wind Mill Finland". The good thing here is I learned that Finland actually had wind mills for centuries, something I had not known before, and that at the present time the country is one of the world leaders when it comes to generating electricity from wind mills.

You never know how you can expand your knowledge of not only the WWII period but also the past and the present on this Forum.

Again, Juha, job well done. I never thought of damage from one's own bombs.

Cheers

Bill

Hi Markus & Bill

Thanks for an interesting question... I should have remembered that earlier on.

A bit off-topic, but perhaps interesting (at least I have been since a kid, when I first heard from it):

Now, the new question.
Name this lesser know Soviet aircraft type that also was used at the Winter War
