That is correct Juha. The man in question is Colonel Richard Lorenz, who was ordered by LtGen. J. F. Lundqvist as Tactical leader and air commander of the FAF units at Karelian Isthmus excluding German Detachment Kuhlmey, who, in practice, implemented all the task requests that Lorenz gave them.

The radio is a Schaub Lorenz from http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/schaub_goldklang_58.html

Pictures of Colonel Richard Lorenz are very rare in internet. The only picture I found and copied from Google searched was removed from there a couple of days ago, and the current address of it cannot be loaded from Finnish servers. Looks like that "The Fighter Academy" site is encrypted.

Thanks for the question and for bringing up Schaub Lorentz (era) memories.

Thanks Juha.

Next question: Finnish World War 2 era manuals about military tactics mention unit type called "taisteluryhmä", which could be literally translated as "combat group", "combat squad", "battle squad" or even "battle group". But in this case the unit type was not a synonym for “taisteluosasto” (battle group). What was this unit type like?

No answers yet - it seems the question may have been a bit difficult.

Hence here is the 1s hint: The unit type was intended as temporary creation and its use ceased during Interim Peace.

Thank you for the tip Jarkko.

Might this 'taisteluryhmä', given its use ceased during the Interim Peace, refer to the Swedish and Norwegians volunteer unit Stridsgruppen SFK; Battle Group SFK, or indeed, Taisteluryhmä SFK?

Stridsgruppen SFK fought in the Lappland during Winter War, after which the unit was disbanded.

I'm sorry for the slow reply, I was travelling and due to that offline for a couple of days.

Also sorry - that is not it. There is no link to foreign volunteer units.

2nd hint: This unit type was introduced due to tactical reasons - to be exact for the purpose of better utilizing the basic tactical principle of fire and movement.

3rd hint: Nowadays Finnish Defence Forces calls infantry tactics involving use of units of this size not to be part of taktiikka (tactics), but taistelutekniikka (combat technique).

Just guessing...

Could it be a reinforced Inf. Company, with a light mortar squad or platoon and machine gun platoon, naturally.
But this leaves us with the question, why this formation type was abandoned...

Sorry - but no. The particular unit type (taisteluryhmä) was not that large. Next hint tomorrow morning...

4th hint: This unit type had only two automatic weapons per unit.

This should be starting to be easy. 5th hint: This temporary unit type had 17 soldiers, which in addition of already mentioned two automatic weapons (one light machinegun and one submachinegun) had 15 rifles.
