Another leading Nazi escapes. The infamous trio of leading Nazi war criminals: Adolf Eichmann, Franz Stangl and the then 22 year old Karoly Steiner

His family claims to have uncovered evidence that shows definitively the unit was not in Budapest on the date of the alleged murder - I have not seen the evidence so I can't give an opinion.

This article gives a good indication of the extreme doubt that hung over this case

In order to convict Zentai you would have to be absolutely convinced of the high standards of Hungarian prosecutions in the late 1940s. Aside from the two other accused, the only witness to the beatings, Janos Mahr, did not witness Zentai actively participating.

The father of the alleged victim appeared to have very exact information of the crime, but it is unclear on what this detailed account was based.

Commonsense has prevailed, but no thanks to the gutless and cowardly Minister of Home Affairs.
