What is your source on Lautenschläger?
I have him sentenced to life by the French Tribunal in Rastatt.

Lautenschläger was sentenced to life imprisonment by a French Tribunal in Rastatt 24 November 1947 for crimes in KL Vaihingen.

Several SS guards from the camps in Baden-Württemberg were held by the Americans in Dachau and during 1946 offered to the Poles for crimes committed in places such as Radom and Lublin. I believe Lautenschläger would have been on both Polish and French wanted lists and this is maybe how his name appeared in the Polish press. I know of at least 2 from KL Vaihingen that were extradited : Julius Barsa and Kurt Möller Both tried during 1948 in Radom and Lublin, Möller was sentenced to death and executed.

As a side question - did the Poles ever extradite any wanted war criminals to the British, French, Dutch or Belgian authorities?

Hello Researcher,

There was a group of 22 men who were extradited from US zone to Poland at the end of 1946 and
were later handed over to the French but Lautenschalger was not among them.
They were mainly members of camps in Radom, Lublin-Majdanek (that's why they were wanted by the Polish authorities) and KL Vaihingen.
Some names: Barff, Hecker, Herzeg, Fieles, Szegedi, Grabert (he was later re-extradited from French zone to Poland) and others.
They were tried in Rastatt-trial in 1947.

Best,
George
