NSDAP politcal, cultural, and racial views on Turks
NSDAP politcal, cultural, and racial views on Turks
Can maybe someone answer these questions for me: What were the Germans'-the Nazis that is-views on the Turkish? What did they classify them on the racial basis? And were there any Turkish victims in the Nazi persecutions?
Re: NSDAP politcal, cultural, and racial views on Turks
Nazis did not set a particular view concerning especially the Turkish. However, the case is I guess how the Turks (and back then Turkey) could be evaluated under their already set politics and world view...

Hitler saw Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in a favourable light… They wanted Turkey at war on their side as an ally. Hitler had written a letter to the then president of Turkey, Ismet Inonu, the request though was rejected.
As for the issue of race: Turkish people originate from Central Asia but they have mixed with many other ethnicities along the way. By the Nazis' definition, they are absolutely "non-aryan".
Yes, there is a small number of Turkish people who lost their lives in the concentration camps. Actually, about 7 years ago Germany paid a large sum of money as per compensation to the decendants of a Turkish war prisoner (who was apparently hold in one of the camps for a while and survived).
