Beheadings in the Third Reich
The history of Austrian criminal justice
http://www.konzeptfabrik.at/Ausstellung ... arkeit.pdf
The case of Karoline (Martha) Marek is described on page 52 of the document. Clemency rejection letter signed by Hitler is also shown, as well as handwritten notes in the diary of prison chaplain Eduard Kock on her execution. Martha Marek was almost certainly the first person beheaded in Vienna with the new Tegel fallbeil brought there in September 1938. More than a thousand of others followed until the last mass beheading in March 1945.

Another group 40 Vienna Central Cemetery burial photo
http://www.ff-steinfelden.at/Chronik/19 ... g2_252.jpg
In this larger photo you can see bodies wrapped in blankets and placed in wooden trays more clearly. Many of these are bodies of those beheaded at Vienna Regional Court. The body in the foreground looks like a trunk with a separately wrapped head at its feet.
Another short video clip about Johann Reichhart

In the last part of the clip you can see a photo of Johann Reichhart together with his son who later committed suicide. The video also shows the cell at Stadelheim prison where Sophie Scholl was held for a few hours just prior to her execution the same day.

Young Hans Scholl and his brother
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/01/ ... 34x594.jpg
Hans Scholl was beheaded on 22 February 1943 with his sister Sophie, and Christoph Probst. Werner served as a soldier on the Eastern Front and never returned.
Stadelheim guillotine blade
In this short clip note how thick the 15 kg (33 lb) Stadelheim guillotine blade is. At least 3/4 inch thick steel plate. When the blade is being removed from its case there appears to be a wooden blade edge guard. Was this standard equipment for blades stored inside wooden cases?
Is this the actual blade that killed Hans and Sophie Scholl and Christoph Probst? Possibly. Note that this particular blade does not have the cutouts on the side, characteristic of original Mannhardt guillotine blades. Machining these recesses was extra work and was apparently discontinued for replacement blades during the Nazi years. According to the narrator in the clip, this guillotine killed over 1000 people while used in Stadelheim prison.

Re: Stadelheim guillotine blade
It could be the actual blade that killed the Scholls. I say "could" because we cannot conclusively state it was the very blade.Pete26 wrote:In this short clip note how thick the 15 kg (33 lb) Stadelheim guillotine blade is. It does, of course, fit the sledge as seen in the video.
After correspondence with Dr. Sybe Wartena of the Bavarian National Museum, I can confirm
he found two (2) blades in their storage. One has large bolt holes; the other has smaller holes with "keys" for locking bolts.
The sharp edges of both blades fit into wooden edge guards which also secure the blades in each case. The cases also
have inset boxes which may contain the bolts. Both blades have straight sides.

Sophie is on the etreme right of the photo. The photo was taken most likely around 1930. The boy and the girl standing closest to Sophie are probably their childhood friends.
