Dr Jakob Kastelic was an Austrian resistance fighter. He was sentenced to death for his activities on 1 March 1944 and guillotined at Vienna Regional Court on 2 August 1944.

They were both sentenced to death for their anti Nazi activities and beheaded at Vienna Regional Court on 22 March 1945, together with Dr Heinrich Meier and 14 other prisoners.

The execution session of 22 March 1945 was the last execution by guillotine at Vienna Regional Court. Vienna liberation offensive started just 11 days later on 2 April 1945, and Vienna was liberated by Soviet and Bulgarian troops on 13 April 1945. The 17 people beheaded in the last session indeed died on the threshold of freedom. Some were very young. Anna Fanta was 19 years old, Zbigniew Kosecki was just 17, guillotined 6 days before his 18th birthday, Thaddaus Oginsky was 21, and Franz Stiawa was 20. The oldest person executed that day was Agnes Budik, aged 50.

This is another photo, giving a good perspective on the size of this room. The guillotine was installed facing the window, to the right of the center of the room, in front of the floor drain. A memorial candle holder is placed directly over the floor drain. On the left side the wall is tiled and the water faucet is clearly visible. A sink with a water hose was no doubt mounted there. On the right wall are the memorial tablets listing the names of more than 500 people who were guillotined in this room. The actual number however, is over 1000 victims. For some reason, those guillotined prior to 1942 are not listed there. And the list of names starting in 1942 is incomplete. This room was used for guillotine beheadings between 1939 and 1945, the last execution session taking place on 22 March 1945, just a few weeks before Vienna was liberated.

According to this article, 106 people were guillotined at the Regional Court in Graz, Austria. However, another article I found states that there are 106 names listed on the new memorial plaque, but the exact number of victims is higher. Just between 1943 and 1945, 155 people were executed here. The execution room was in the basement. The photo shows the guillotine blade placed on the spot where the guillotine had stood. On 27 March 1945 the guillotine was removed from the execution room and hidden so that no more executions could be carried out at this location.

Most of the men and women executed here had been organized in different Styrian, Carinthian, and Slovenian resistance groups. 23 of them were deserters.

This is the Tegel type fallbeil which was used for executions in Brandenburg-Gorden prison. There is no blade shield provided, which was installed on most other Tegel fallbeils. The fallbeil on display today in the Brandenburg-Gorden execution room is a Mannhardt fallbeil, not used there, and it is most likely the Plotzensee original fallbeil.

24 year old Russian foreign worker Valentina Arkhipova was sentenced to death in 1943 for looting and guillotined in Frankfurt Preungesheim prison. She supposedly took about 2 meters of partially burned cloth from her neighbor's bombed out apartment and sold it. Her case is eerily similar to that of Erna Wazinski who was also guillotined for looting, but in Wolfenbuttel prison.

Guillotined in Hamburg 110 years ago.

On february 2ndt 1905, the 50 year old midwife and 5 fold child murderess Elisabeth Wiese from the Hamburg district St. Pauli was executed in the yard of the Investigation Prison Hamburg on the Holstenglacis in the old Hanzestadt.A pastor accompagnied the delinquent on her last walk.The judgement of the Justice Court of october 15th 1904 was read out.The representative for the State prosecution ordered: "Executioner, perform your profession"The executioner pulled the black curtains hiding the Guillotine aside, his two assistands seized the convict, tied her to the bench with belts and backed away.A few seconds later her head was severed from her trunk and fell in a wicker basket.The body was placed in a already prepared coffin.The prison physician confirmed the death,the time of execution was noted in the protocoll. The execution took 3 minutes. The coffin was delivered to the Harbour Hospital.There an assistant took the deaths mask from the skull of the deceased.

51 year old mass murderer Karl Hopf was guillotined in Preungesheim prison yard on 23 March 1914 at 7 o'clock in the morning. His body was not claimed by his relatives and so it was given to the University of Marburg for dissection purposes.
