I speak with my uncle several times a week and visit him often. He is 86 in poor health, but his mind is very sharp and his recall is amazing.
I have sent as attached text to many of his book, Captor Captive, based on his army experiences including Landsberg.
I am assisting some new writers gather facts and coordinating questions from them to him in their project of rewriting the book for publishing.

I can send the book as attachment tomjax at yahoo. com

The firing squad sentence was for honorable executions and hanging was for more heinous crimes and considered a dishonorable death.
For some reason, Jorgen Stroop was scheduled to face the firing squad and my uncle never understood this.
My uncle prepared Stroop the night before his scheduled execution and talked to him. He was cold and unemotional as usual. He even requested second helpings of his last meal, which my uncle provided.
When my uncle told him the next morning he was not to be executed because the Polish govt wanted him to try him themselves, he had absolutely no reaction.
My uncle has never hated anyone, but J Stroop is perhaps the person he had the least regard and respect of.

Another bit of trivia from another book, By The Neck Until Dead- The Gallows of Nuremberg"-
The first sentences from Nuremberg was death by GUILLOTINE!!!
Eisenhower reviewed this and went ballistic and said there will never be Guillotine executinos by the US. He changed it to hanging.

For Markus on additional executions. These not from Dachau.
On St Valentines day 2 13(?) 1947 the first 4 executino by firing squad took place.
Dimitris Kosturas chose not to have a hood placed over his head-
Petrid Demosthenes
John Drabek
Josef Kaminski

An intersting bit of trivia on Kosturas was when my uncle asked if he had any last request as he was about to be tied to the execution post. He asked my uncle if he had a candy bar since he saw my uncle pull some from his coat the night before. My uncle gave him a Krakel candy bar he ate shortly before he was executed.

I thought I had posted a reply to this and maybe I am not up to speed on posting, so I will try again.
Yes, I talk to my uncle several times a week and visit him often.
As I have said, he is living at this date with a very sharp mind and amazing recall.

I am still looking for a list of all those executed at Landsberg.
I recall from source, that 284 were executed there and the list on the intital posting is incomplete.
Any help appreciated in locating such a list.

Thanks,
Tom

Hello,

Hermann Noack was executed for killing two Crewmembers of a shoot-down B-24 on 27. Sep. 1944 near Hattenrode/ Germany. He and the local butcher Karl Georg Böß took one crewmenber in a car driven by Böß to look for his paracute. In a wood Noack shot the crewmember with his pistol. Noack and Böß drove back and made the same with another prisoner, too.

The killed men where:

S./Sgt. Ferdinand R. Flach
S./Sgt. Lee R. J. Hoffman

The plane was the B-24H Nr. 41-28922 "Texas Rose" of 445. Bomber Group, 701 Sqd.

Böß was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Greetings

Thilo

02 Jan 1946, Landsberg, Germany — Franz Strasser, former Nazi official who was recently hanged as a war criminal for the killing of American flyers, is pictured in Landsberg prison shortly before he walked the last mile to the gallows. One of the last to visit the convicted criminal was a German Catholic priest Karl Morgenschweis, shown praying with the condemned man.

The reason for the execution of August Kobus is given here:

US Pilot/POW reported killed 1945 Germany
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=141835

I don't have his date or place of birth.

The reasons for the executions of other German war criminals by US military tribunals in Germany can be seen by clicking on the hyperlinks in the ICWC index at http://www.icwc.de/index.php?id=69&L=0

I am not aware of any official list of executed war criminals at Bruschal Prison. By my count, at least thirteen hangings took place at this prison between 10 November , 1945 and 14 March, 1946. Bruchsal Prison was employed as a detention center for war criminals sentenced to death or imprisonment by military government courts and commissions convened by the Seventh United States Army.
