quite true - but not only for your Southern neighbours.

new Question (not too difficult)
which namesake of a Volksmarine missile vessel lost his right arm as a four-year-old child in a tramway accident ?

It's been awhile and no one has proposed a question. So here is mine. Who was the US Soldier who defected to East Germany in 1952 by swiming across the Danube River to the Soviet Zone of Austria?

thanks, ehrentitle, hello, all

not too difficult ..

a Danish warship (with a name dear to me :milwink: ), then a Kriegsmarine vessel, became a Seepolizei training vessel with a famous German communist´s name and, eventually, a Volksmarine vessel with the name of a rating of the Imperial german navy ..

Polar bear, Volksmarine is my area of interest, but it's unlikely I can come up with a VM related question that you don't already know the answer to. So here is something outside of that area:

What was the Kommandantendienst and who within the NVA had overall command of this organization.

hello, ehrentitle,

the Kommandantendienst - something close to a MP - hat the task to support bivacouing, marching and deployment of troops by securing roads, crossings, places etc.
Afaik, there was no "central command", but the Kommandantendienst were subordinated directly to the division staffs
