At Lake Ladoga (Suho Island) captured Siebel ferry at Soviet service under name DB-51 perhaps at Tuulos(Tuloksa)?

Hi all,

I found this image on EBay. In the image we can see some german MFP (I think) with powerful AA defence.

According to photocaption, Bari harbour in 1945 but Bari was taken by Allied forces in Sep 1943. :?
Is it possible that the image was actually taken in late 1943 or 1944?

Why do you think taken 1943 or 1944? In the background there is a Liberty-ship, so the picture was taken after Bari was seized by the Allies.
But the small Red Cross vessel in the foreground looks very much like the "Ebe" of 1917, which was in German service until 1945. The bigger one is the "Freiburg" (ex "Stamira"), which became a German hospital ship in May 1944, but was seized in October 1944.
So it's possible the picture shows some German MFPs handed over after the armistice in Italy. The might as well be Italian MZ, but the heavy armement makes it much more probable they are former Germans.

"Freiburg" was retroceded to Germany in March 1945. She left Triest for Bari when the German front in Italy collapsed:

I have confirmation that this is Bari, probably around July 1945. These are probably the MFPs that were ceded to Italy after the war.

The small boat in the foreground with the Red Cross is the former Venice flotilla Hafenschutzboote IV57, which was a former old Elco type motor launch from the Italian Navy named"Ebe".

I am really interested as to where this picture came from and if there are any more in this series, especially showing the armed ship in the row closest to the camera second from the right, with what look like are lots of shielded 20mm guns. Also, the small armed boat to the starboard side of the IV57 is particularly interesting.

In my opinion, the ships pictured, apart from the former Regia Marina WW1 ELCO-type MAS-boat EBE/F 69/IV 57/G 321 and the German hospital ship FREIBURG ex STAMIRA ex STAMURA, 1,463 grt/1929, already identified by Klaus-Guenther and Dave, are the RSI midget submarine CM1; a former motor-schooner razed of her masts to be used as a Flakschiff/gunboat; and three or four AF/KF, i.e. MFPs converted into Artillerie/Kanonenboot FaehrPrahme. One of them should be AF 1046 ex F 1046DM, later the Italian Navy MZ 1046 then MTC 1101. The others could be AF 1003, 1004 and 1005, but without any certainty. I'll enter into more details tomorrow.

One of the four or five AF/KF depicted should be AF 1046, ex F 1046DM, built by CRDA at Monfalcone, yard no. 1573, launch 12.1944 and in Kriegsmarine service 8 Feb. 1945, armament 1 x 88 mm, 4 x 20 mm Vierling, 1 x 20 mm single Oerlikon, 1 x 37 mm Breda, a d.c. thrower, fitted with mine rails. Captured at the Tagliamento mouth on 2 May 1945 by three RN MGBs. On 15 June 1946 delivered to the Italian Navy at first as MZ 1046 (number unchanged), in commission 1.8.1946, renamed MTC 1101 on 1 May 1950. Stricken 1.8.1968.
The others could well be AF 1003, 1004 and 1005, ex F of the same numbers, about whose fate there seems to be no information after March, 1945.

At the center of the nest there is undoubtedly the German hospital ship FREIBURG, ex STAMIRA, launched 14.4.1929 and delivered June 1929 by CNR Ancona, yard no. 105, 1,463 grt, as STAMURA to the SAIM, Soc. An. Industrie Marittime of Ancona, Apr. 1932 to Comp. Adriatica di Navigaz., Jan. 1937 to the Soc. Fiumana di Navigaz. and renamed STAMIRA. In German hands in the Adriatic Sea on 9 Sept. 1943, managed by the Mittelmeer Reederei GmbH, converted by Breda at Porto Marghera into a hospital ship, in service 3.5.1944 as FREIBURG, captured by HMS LAMERTON 23.10.1944 during a trip from Durazzo to Trieste with wounded troops on board. Returned to the Kriegsmarine 22.3.1945. Sailed from Pola on 1.5.1945 to escape the Yugoslav forces and surrendered to the Allies. In 1947 delivered to Greece under the war reparations account as PIREEUS (or PIREEFS), in 1948 ELSI with John (Ioannes) K. Togias, Piraeus, in 1958 ELLI TOYIAS with Evangelos Toyias, 1960 or 1965 ELLI with the Aegean SS Co. Ltd (Typaldos Adelphoi). Broken up in 1982 at Piraeus.

In the forefront there is EBE, with Societa' Partenopea di Navigaz. since 1927, formerly with ing. Ferdinando Bonifacio & C., Naples, since 1924. She was a former Regia Marina MAS of the ELCO type, built in 1917 by ELCO at Bayonne, number not known, converted in 1924 into a passenger motor-vessel by CNR Palermo. She was requisitioned by the Regia Marina in May 1940 as F 69. In the Kriegsmarine in Sept. 1943, she was renamed in Oct. 1943 IV 57 (Italien, Venedig Hafenschutzfl.), sunk near Venice 8.3.1944 in collision with IV 60, salved 4.1944 and repaired, recommissioned on 19.1.1945 as G 321 (3. Geleitflottille). Post-war in 1961 to the Soc. An. di Navigaz. Tremolese SANT, Pescara, broken up in 1970.
