German E Boat operations

Postby don1 on 02 Feb 2003 14:33

Does anyone have any information about Kapitan Zur See Rudolf Petersen the Fuhrer Des Schellboote? Also about his operations from Cherbourg and Guernsey?
He commanded the 5th and 9th Flottilla of S Boats, or E Boats as the British called them. I believe they were extremely effective in the attack on US forces during Operation Tiger, the dress rehearsal for D Day in April 1944?

Channel Islands E Boats

Postby don1 on 18 Feb 2003 11:42

My inquiry relates specifically to E Boat operations from the French Channel ports and Channel Islands bases in Guernsey and Jersey.

I know they were involved in Operation Tiger in April 1944 and numerous other attcaks on Allied shipping. Any details of these actions would be appreciated.

I wonder if anyone can help with the number of S/E-boats present in the English Channel in September 1940. I see in Bryan Cooper's book 'The E-Boat Threat' he mentions about 12 but I have no idea of the ports used or the mother ships, in fact I know very little!
Appreciate any help thanks

I have the Hummelchen book and the data should be there. It is stored away. If you give me a few days I will search and post back.

type in Chronik Seekrieg

scroll down till you find Schnellbooten - Flottilles you can go through each one and find in brief every S-boot serving in the early period, plus at the top you have a month by month diary which is essential reading
