Kriegsmarine losses

Hi buddies, the German wikipedia article on kriegsmarine says it suffered the following losses:
4 Schlachtschiffe und -kreuzer, 5 Schwere Kreuzer, 4 Leichte Kreuzer, 2 alte Linienschiffe, 27 Zerstörer, 68 Torpedoboote, 27 Geleitboote, 106 Minensuchboote, 185 Räumboote, 152 Schnellboote, 968 U-Boote, 525 Marinefährprähmen, 9 Hilfskreuzer, 35 Minenschiffe, 66 Sperrbrecher, 3 Minenräumschiffe, 132 Hilfsminensuchboote, 137 U-Bootjäger, 189 Vorpostenboote, 278 Küsten- und Hafenschutzboote, 86 Sicherungsboote, 21 Hilfsgeleitboote und ca. 200 sonstige Schiffe und Boote
(4 battleships and battlecruisers, 5 heavy and 4 light cruisers, 2 pre-dreadnaughts, 27 destoryers, 68 torpedo boats, 27 escort boats, 106 minesweepers, 185 motor minesweepers, 152 fast assault boats, 968 subs, 525 MFPs, 9 auxiliary cruisers, 35 minelayers, 66 sperrbrechers, 3 MRS ships, 132 auxiliary minesweepers, 137 sub-chasers, 189 outpost boats, 278 coastal and habor defense boats, 86 security boats, 21 auxiliary escort boats and 200 others)

Some of the figures don't look right. The Germans lost a fifth light cruiser, the Niobe, while only 8 auxiliary cruisers were lost (the 3 survivors: Coronel as fighter direction ship Togo, Widder as repair ship Neumark and Hansa as cadet training ship). The figures of the smaller ships are also worth a check, e.g. 35 minelayers lost seemed to be too high, while which ships were counted as escort boats and auxiliary escort boats is also very ambiguous...

Do we have more exact and detailed count of KM losses, especially the smaller combatants and auxiliaries? Thanks a lot :D

Quite simply, I believe the KM lost 100% of its vessels.
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

hi,

That's (only) true if you consider the ships claimed by the Allies after the war as "loss".
e.g. cruisers Prinz Eugen, Nürnberg and Leipzig
Destroyers Z 4, 5, 6, 10, 14, 15, 20, 25, 29, 30, 31, 33, 38, 39,
T-boats T 11, 12, 14, 17, 20, 23, 28, 33, 35
and many minesweepers, motor-minesweepers (Räumboote) and E-boats (Schnellboote)

greetings, the pb

Well they were lost to the Kriegsmarine. :)

The comment however was made in jest.

Yeah let's focus on the ships sunk, scuttled, considered as constructive total losses, captured, wrecked or otherwisely lost during ww2 by Kriegsmarine...
