A lot of different stories go around concerning Seydlitz fate after 1945.
According to some sources she was raised, taken out to sea in 1947 and scuttled.
According to others she was taken to Leningrad and cannibalized to complete Lutzow/Dnepr and was scrapped in 1958.
Others state that she was scrapped on the spot in 1958.
the site http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/2833/ ... dlitz.html states that "She was renamed Poltava by the Russians and plans were made to rebuild her. They were canceled and the hull was scrapped around 1950-51."
Which might be the case?
I have'nt seen any post-scuttling photos might show her condition and possible potential. Has anybody seen any?

Heavy Cruiser Seydlitz
According to Whitley's book on German cruisers work on Seydlitz was well advanced when the decision to convert her to an aircracft carrier was made. Can anyone make a guesstimate as to when she would be ready for operations if the ship had been completed as a cruiser.
Thanks
Simon
