The official AHF Kriegsmarine quiz thread
Re: The official AHF Kriegsmarine quiz thread
Hello colleagues
I have nothing against submarines, but it's the next question here, where's place only for surface ships were actually place. I think you have to remember that here too there is a pure submarine corner. And no offense!

Hi Mischa. I didn't know that there was a separate thread for u-boats. I'll not ask any more u-boat questions here. No sweat. Thanks.

You're not to blame, but those who know here better, they have forgotten it, I do not know why?Rob Stuart wrote:Hi Mischa. I didn't know that there was a separate thread for u-boats. I'll not ask any more u-boat questions here. No sweat. Thanks. Hint #3:

Hint #4: The ex-dominion was Newfoundland. It became a dominion in 1907 but relinquished dominion status in 1934. It became Canada's 10th province in 1949.
To sum up the hints: which u-boat sank a ferry sailing between Canada and Newfoundland in 1942? The photo is a heavy hint as to the name of the ferry.

Re: The official AHF Kriegsmarine quiz thread
Hello!
Submarine chaser Uj-1708 sunk by Soviet submarine K-3 on December 3, 1941?
At 1328 hours K-3 fires four torpedoes at the German merchant Altkirch (4713 GRT) off northern Norway in position 70°51'N, 23°50'E. All torpedoes however miss their target.
The escorting German auxiliary submarine chasers UJ 1403, UJ 1416 and UJ 1708 engage K-3 with depth charges damaging the submarine so that it had to surface resulting in a gun battle.
At 1507 hours K-3 hits the UJ 1708/Faroer (470 GRT) resulting in the sinking of this ship in position 70°54'N, 23°46'E.
The lightly armed UJ 1403 and UJ 1416 withdrew from the scene giving the damaged K-3 a possibility to escape.

Re: The official AHF Kriegsmarine quiz thread
hi, Olivier,
by way of exclusion (like Sherlock)
- it is not originally German,
- it is not a Dutch or Norwegian armoured coastal defence ship later turned ito a German floating AAW battery,
but which one ?
edit: Danish armoured coastal defence ship PEDER SKRAM before being scuttled in August, 1943 (afterwards stationary training ship ADLER). See http://www.navalhistory.dk/English/TheS ... (1908).htm
If this picture was really taken in 1908, that´s a "borderline" question for the Kriegsmarine thread, ne c`est pas ?

Re: The official AHF Kriegsmarine quiz thread
Spot on, Aleks !
Sorry if it was borderline, I did not find any picture of her as Adler.
And the other "Nordish" coastal defense ship rerated as Kriegsmarine AA battery already appeared in the thread
Your turn for the next question.
