Another history museum is coming in Warszawa. This follows the completed Warsaw Uprising Museum and the in-progress Jewish History Museum.

Minister of Culture Bogdan Zdrojewski has championed the forthcoming Polish History Museum as a space that will appeal to all age-groups.

The winning design for the institution's permanent exhibition was announced yesterday in Warsaw, with the jury picking a joint venture by Marcin Mostafa's WWAA Design Studio and animation company Platige Image. “The exhibition will be truly interesting,” the minister told the Polish Press Agency, noting that the project will combine virtual reality with more archaic elements. “The exhibition is for everyone,” he affirmed, “from the youngest to the oldest."

Construction of the new headquarters of the museum is due to take place near Plac Na Rozdrozu (Crossroads Square), in the vicinity of the Zamek Ujazdowski contemporary art museum. Krzysztof Noworyta from Platige Image explained that his team “wanted to create the kind of museum that we could present to our own children.” The decision of the jury was unanimous, and a prize of 250,000 zloty (55,900 euros) has been awarded to the winning group. Warsaw Jewish museum to be 'centre of dialogue'
19.04.2013 13:56

The Museum of the History of Polish Jews will be 'a centre of dialogue' according to staff at the Warsaw institution.

“We want to create a centre of dialogue and discussion,” said Lucja Koch from the museum's educational department, in an interview with Polish Radio.

“That's why – rather symbolically – there are five bridges in this building,” she noted.

“They connect different spaces. We want to connect the past with the present.”

The permanent exhibition will not be finished until late 2013 at the earliest, but the institution is opening its doors to the public today and tomorrow, as part of the events marking the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the doomed Jewish insurgency against the Nazi German occupier.

“We want to remind the younger generations about [what was] a multi-ethnic Poland,” Koch continued.

“We are not going to this by falsifying history, and by presenting this as all one great, beautiful story, because that's not how it was,” she stressed.

“Polish-Jewish history was terribly difficult,” she said. (nh)

'Spirit of Warsaw Uprising built Israel'
19.04.2013 08:48

"The Spirit of the Ghetto Uprising built the State of Israel,” Israeli ambassador to Poland Zvi Rav-Ner said Thursday evening on the eve of the 70th Warsaw Ghetto Uprising anniversary.

The ambassador was taking part in the 'Azkara for the Memory' ceremony at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes in Warsaw before a concert by the Israeli Philharmonic.

Ambassador Zvi Rav-Ner said that 70 years ago, as Jewish Ghetto inhabitants rose up against the German Nazi occupiers, Jewish insurgents would not hear classical music but "the music of German bullets, screams and beatings."

As Jews fought a heroic battle against the Germans – lasting from 19 April to 16 May 1943 - the uprising in the ghetto influenced the shape of Jewish identity after the war.

"Israel was built on that base, on those rocks," the ambassador said.

“This was not only a military struggle, but also a spiritual one," Poland's Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich said.

Around 13,000 Jews were killed in the ghetto during the uprising and the remaining 50,000 residents were mostly captured and transported to concentration and extermination camps such as Treblinka.

Ceremonies will be taking place throughout Friday in memory of those who fought and died in the uprising.

The general public will also be allowed to take a look around the new Museum of the History of Polish Jews, though the museum will have its official opening next year. (pg)

The location of the Museum has changed. An update:
http://www.thenews.pl/1/11/Artykul/2083 ... ote]Polish History Museum to open in 2018
PR dla Zagranicy John Beauchamp 28.05.2015 09:23
It has been confirmed by the Culture Minister Małgorzata Omilanowska that the new Polish History Museum is scheduled to be opened on the 11 November 2018, the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence.

A project for creating a national History Museum was adopted in 2006, and a design was chosen in 2009. The Museum was originally meant to be built above the Łazienkowska Thoroughfare, a major road in Warsaw. However the cost of the project was estimated at PLN 350 million (EUR 85 million) and the Museum initially failed to attract enough financial interest.
This March, PM Ewa Kopacz announced that the museum would instead be located at the Warsaw Citadel, a 19th-century fortress inside the capital. The new cost of the project, PLN 310 million (EUR 75 million), will now be financed from the state budget.
The new History Museum will neighbour a Katyn museum and the new Polish Army Museum, both of which are under construction and will also be located inside the Warsaw Citadel. A fourth museum, the Museum of the Tenth Pavilion, a branch of the Museum of Independence, is already located within the Citadel and will remain operational.
This will in effect transform the Warsaw Citadel into one of the more important cultural sites in the city. (sl/jb) Source: PAP [/quote]
