I thought it would be nice to have a thread for information and present day photos on the monuments dedicated to various aspects of the Second World War and to get it started, here are two photos of a momument on Rhodes to the memory of those who died fighting the Axis forces in the Aegan 1943-1945.

Great idea for a thread.

Here are my photographs of the Soviet War Memorial in Berlin at the Tiergarten. The marble used to make the memorial was taken from the ruins of Hitler's Reich Chancellery:

This T-34 which also stands at the memorial is said to be the first Russian tank to have entered Berlin (although this is probably a myth)

I hope you have enjoyed these photographs.

Some more photos from my time in Berlin.

This is the Soviet War Memorial in Treptow Park in the east of the city. The marble used to construct the monument was also taken from the ruins of Hitler's Reich Chancellery.

here's a few from my visits to Berlin

the first is part of the Bendlerblock memorial to the July 20th plotters

the second is a small memorial plaque at the Friedrichstrasse Bahnhof for two "young german soldiers hung by inhuman SS bandits" near war's end

the third are three "stolpersteinen" for the three members of the Jastrow family (Father, Mother and Daughter) deported to Riga in 1941 and murdered

the large grand monuments/memorials are one thing but it is the smaller ones you accidently encounter during your travels that really catch my interest

more to follow if there's interest
